despite what people usually think gasoline fumes or propane gas is actually not so easy to set on fire.... there is a precise ratio of oxygen and a flammable fume needed for combustion. and besides all that, gasoline would burn and not blow up. so myth BUSTED ;)

Huge urban myth this one. I've heard it from so many different sources. A colleague of mine recently told me of a story her hair dresser told her. A friend told her (lots of friends in urban myths) that she'd been to the doctor with a vaginal problem, and the when the results came back, the doctor told her she had a bacterial infection that you can only catch from sex with dead people! And GUESS WHAT???? HER BOYFRIEND WORKED IN AN UNDERTAKERS!!!!!! OH MY GOD!! ARGHHHH!!!! Ok so its bollocks, but I couldn't convince my colleague of this and had to post a link to the story on an urban myth web site. But how many do these gullible people pass it onto and so forth???

Agreed Rupub. Catching the gas from a cigarette is very iffy. Even if he did, it would have burned him rather badly but the gasoline wouldn't have blown him through the door.
