SeaFox, I have only stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki and at BYU on the North Shore but I know where the Renaissance Ilikai is, near the Yacht Harbor and canal. I rented a car from Enterprize, several blocks from there, facing the canal.

JC, Honolulu is very clean, beautiful, and tropical of course, but I'm not crazy about large cities. They also have a pretty big theft problem. The car rental company asked me not to leave anything of value visable inside the car even if locked because a window would probably be broken to get to it. Only items locked in the trunk are usually safe.

oddo, I understand it's determined by population, including average daily hotel occupancy. Ranked by retail sales tax, Honolulu is the 17th US city. (not my computations)
Honolulu is the 14th largest city!?! I had no idea, that's much bigger than I expected :O Looks like a very beautiful city too :)
RC-86, Have you been to the hotel, "The Ilakai"??? I stayed there the first time I went! :)

RC-86, I'm not crazy about large cities either having lived in the countryside in the uk all my life, but I still think this looks like a great place to visit :) Shame about the crime problem.
