Honest Ed's - Toronto

Honest Ed's is a large block of storefronts all connected together into one huge store.
Encircle the whole block are huge, garish signs with 23000 light bulbs. Underneath is a smaller strip of signs which proclaim things such as:
"THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE THIS ANYPLACE"
"ONLY THE FLOORS ARE CROOKED"
"COME IN AND GET LOST"
"ED ISN'T SQUIRRLY, BUT HIS PRICES ARE NUTS"
Entrepreneur and theatre impresario Ed Mervish died a year ago at nearly 93 yrs. old

Oh!!! I need to go here sometime! A whole city block? COOL! :D
Where? I always thought you were California.. I don't know why. Were you an Etobicoke boy? What area are you in now?
its HUGE in there. Ed Mirvish.. the founder/owner just passed away about 8 months ago. They shut down the streets and had a huge party in his honour. There were mass amounts of flowers outside of here for about a month afterwards.
He has a bunch of fine restaurants on King St. as well. Was active in the theatre community as well sponsoring lots of shows at the grass roots level.
Wonderful post RJ.
Sundin - I'm doing some "armchair traveling" to your town today!
I found this and thought it would be an interesting post.
We drove around Honest Ed's, but darn, didn't have time to go in.
Besides, we probably would have lost the entire Scout troop in there!
