You could hardly call Patti Smith mainstream, even today. Crosby, Stills & Nash were also bordering on the edge when they released "Ohio," which got them banned from many a radio station and television network. You also had to be around during the early to mid-seventies when Kiss was getting started. They had parents and more established bands scared out of their wits. It's a mistake to judge some of these artists by the position they are in now, after years have gone by.
