Its different stories ramsey everywhere you look, from no help, to two life guards only from a private beach, to many tried but failed. One article even questioned whether they were thrown into the sea after begging on the beach!! I think thats a long shot. Aside from this incident, I do find it concerning that the Roma gypsies appear to be getting singled out in Italy. Facist attitudes are growing across Europe again, especially in places like france and germany, even Britain has seen an increase in seats won by right wing parties. Worrying.
According to the account I read, people did go into the water to save them. Two were saved and these two drowned. Why did they lay on the beach for an hour? In the US they would have been taken away in a matter of minutes, unless homicide was suspected. Then the whole area would have been cordoned off and those picnickers would have been hauled "Down Town" for questioning.
Italian politics isn't something we normally hear about in the UK to be honest, unless its Milly D'Abrraccio or someone like that. french stuff, usa dramatics etc, we get those non stop, but never Italian politics.
dunno, probably he's been talkin' about....you know, he talks a lot of shit.
Part gypo myself haya, and too soft as far as kids go. Is it true though that the Italian premiere has ordered the finger printing of every Roma including kids?
ok, if you're "English" and "far too stiff upper lip to get" wet then i don't understand the article on the news nor your putting it up here. honest.
there's not big issue with Romas that i know of; issue is, if a drunk roma runs over kids with the car and doesn't even stop to call an ambulance then people from the block gets together and go and burn them all down with the shithole camp of theirs. that's how shit goes. whoever you are and wherever you come from; you come here, just be cool and try and get along with the flow. if you fuck up you get fucked up, this is the bottomline of the story here in the south. not the same in the north, but up to them. romas is dirty lazy people who steals shit and beg around, if you're full of shit like them then don't blame it on others if they don't like you.
and btw, buddy, i don't think you'd get away from the beach "out of respect" for two blanks on the ground....i belive you'd eventually get away, but just because the scene doesn't match your ideal of sunny day on the beach. respect, LOL, for what? for your own free time maybe.

jump around the bodies pulling hair and screaming??? I'm English buddy, we're far to stiff upper lip to get hysterical. I wouldn't have remained on the beach though, I would have left. Out of respect for the little girls I would have left the beach for the day, its a very sad situation. I certainly wouldn't have sat there and continued to eat my lunch! The story as reported in most places states that most people didn't try and help them either, not something else I could have done. I wouldn't be able to live with myself unless I'd tried. Lets put this into context, I get upset if I see a dog run over. These were two children, alive and well, seen by all on the beach. The go into the water get, into trouble and then die in front of those same people, who carry on as normal, even down to having lunch??? Nope, I would have left. So whats with this approach towards the Roma people? Arson attacks, and finger printing of every Roma, even the children?? Is that true?
...i actually don't know what did you expect people to do about this tragedy. kids alone begging around, swimming goes bad, kids died, someone pulled them off, not much to do anymore. if parents would have been around then you'd have seen a couple of adults mourning at the bodies in this pic, but this is not the case. as far as the other swimmers goes, people's curiosity is strong when there is a body on the ground, it's some kind of voyeurism...and the bloodier the better, if you don't know the body on the ground you don't give a fuck about it, you just want to have a look and have a thing to talk shit about later on when life goes on. the only strange thing i see in this story is the absence of curiosity, but if the bodies have been there for a few hours then no mistery. what would you have done in that situation Zeus, jump around the bodies pulling your hairs and screaming, maybe?
Italy doesn't have to look too far back into its past, to realise that some of the current actions towards the Roma people shouldn't be happening.
It would be good to get a view from Haya on this one.

i have mixed feelings about this.
2 children pulled from the sea and laid at rest on the beach, covered by a towel. you either assisted or you watched. either way, you were a part of this moment in time.
but there is not much anyone can do beyond waiting for the police to arrive. will it dampen your day or help you lose your appetite? i suppose that depends on your plans and hunger.
for me, i suppose it would make me very somber, but also realize again how precious life is and that going home to sit in a dark room and reflect on what happened is not exactly "living" ;)
