I've quit the game now, all is tested and it seems ok :) I'll keep an eye out for the rest of you here and we can go from there :)

Probably don't need the game on the server, unless it is also the computer play the game on!?! I don't know whether the server is controlled by it's own inteface or just through the game, but I'm sure the server software will have a pdf manual with it. You could try looking in the forums on the http://www.pacific-fighters.com/ site to see if there is anymore info.

YoOoster to host a server you would need to download, install and run the PF Server software, you can get it from here http://www.pacific-fighters.com/en/updates.php. It's 500Mb of downloads in several parts!! Start at V3.03 and keep updating untill you get to V4.04. You want the 'Standalone Version' not the 'Merged Version' :)

I didn't hear any complaints, and some of the guys that joined us are clearly experienced playing online :)

I've been working on a new play area. The bases are a bit futher apart and hopefully there is a bit more terrain. It uses the same map where this pic was taken, where you flew to the end of the island and back, but you won't have to go that far to get to the enemy! Unfortunately you are limited to put bases where an airfield already exists on the map! We'll have to try the new one later :)

Most players had a ping of 250-350 which seemed fine, but as it got full some had a ping of 400-800 which slowed things down a little once or twice, on the hole it worked pretty well though. It was limited to 8 players, perhaps 6 would be better, but then again the slow down wasn't due to my computer going slow the people just had slow connections to me. I was impressed my internet connection was quick enough, I only habe 512bps download and 256bps upload.

I did have one little problem which might have cuased a glitch when I accidentally hit the windows start menu key and the PF game minimised!! :S Thankfully it all came back ok, I was worried that everyone would suddenly be booted from the game :D

Another thing I was really pleased about was that I had no slow down at all flying today, even with hosting the mission!! My game was working around 45-65 frames per second even with 8 guys in the game :)

If you want to look at building missions you use the 'full mission builder' in the game, intructions on how to use it are in the manual which is in the PF folder as a pdf file. The online mission havbe there own folder which is then split in to coop, dog fight etc.

I think adding a few well place ground targets would be cool too for target practice :)

I should have said it's UDP port 21000 not TCP :) Yes real landings for sure, I quite liked unlimited ammo, I get through a lot as I'm not too good :D Limited fuel is fair enough. I think a better map with the bases a bit further apart would be good, and some terain to fly around...

That was awesome!!! I can't believe it worked :O You just need to be sure you have the port open, port 21000 by default, so that the hyperlobby server can connect people to your mission :) If you have a router you have to set the firewall on that too and make sure the data is sent to the right computer on the network :)

Seafox, have a look at the settings and let me know what would be good, i'll look tomorrow too. The mission I used was a generic one all I did was change a few details, I'll have to look at making a better one :)

Seafox, I've checked my firewalls and made sure they are open for PF so hopefully this time the PF Server will be able to access my computer to get the mission so we can have our own game. We will have to try it again later. If we can get it to work we can then build our own map or missions for dogfighting or co-op play :)

I've also made some adjustments to my computer and the PF settings to ensure my game runs quickly which will hopefully solve the problems I had yesterday :)

Racer, I'm rubbish at shooting down other planes too, using the view zeus mentions certainly help though :D

Sorry SeaFox, I was just doing some latency testing. I'm watching the rallying and then I'm off to bed :D

I did some tests cutting back the video size and detail to see if it might help but it makes no difference. The latency is purely down to the internet and the Hyperlobby server! Just as I have finished testing my ping rate to hypperlobby has droped from 350ms to 80ms!! Bloody typical.

That would be sweet YoOoster. I think it may be possible just to make a game on the existing server, I'll look in to it.

Zeus, as a one time programmer, I find it hard to believe that my computer would cause a great deal of latency to other players anyway. The server would have timed out on my computer if it was slow to respond and carried on regardless!
