The Conversation film has scratches

The DVD has scratches, scratching, flashes of light spots and dark spots, sly references to operatives' tactics. Great movie except for the annoying small flashes of light periodically which I had to watch for frame by frame. Very poignant movie. 35 years old this year.

frame by frame for early James Bond Films too. Unique acting methods of delivering thoughtful study by slowly caressing ones nose or cheek is revealing. I am practicing this to get better.
John Cazale in this movie does it two ways. David Niven in Casino Royale? Gert Frobe in Goldfinger?
Never heard of this film, but Gene Hackman is a brilliant actor. Great life story too.
Harry Caul and his assistant want to know what the subjct is thinking instead of just doing their job of recording their voices. Also very excellent approximation of actual operatives at a convention, Gene Hackman and John Cazale were taught very (very) well to approximate operative signal and body movements. It also has a spooky reference to the Unabomer (FC) early in the movie when Hackman exits the elevator in the warehouse for the first time. Operatives of today look at this soon to be cult classic. It is poignant. How did Coppola write this? It has so many layers of meaning.

BTW the chalk initials in the elevator scene might be FG. If yes, then a possible reference to Francis Gary [Powers]
The best technique is to make frame grabs of of each frame in a sequence then watch those. Going backwards in a DVD requires going through a buffer and it alters the viewing.
