The Full Fish Tank :)
_.jpg)
Here it is the full fish tank view. :)
Yes I know the back of the tank has algae on it, and yes I know the photo isn't too sharp either. But it'll have to do for now :)

DD, nobody can wind me up more than I do!!! :D
In other news... ...The tank has finished it's course of algae treatment and had a bit of a clear out too, but the algae situation doesn't look a lot different, but it can take time so I'm still hopeful :)
JC - isn't any fun wanting to pick on you!
You beat yourself up better than I can (in your own posts) :-))
Copper used to be used for algae and some illnesses for tropical fish, but it is now known to be very harmful to some fish, such as my Otocinclus. The bleach method does work but you still end up with it growing back from the spores left in the tank. A siamese algae eater would help but then my two otocinclus are also very good for algae eating too. They keep the stones and glass, with the normal algae on looking just fine bit leave the stuff on the plants. I've just ordered some special algae stuff from esha, a fish remedy company I find very good. Hopefully thing will balance out again soon.
Thanks for your interest startrooper :)
I don't know if this helps JC: "Treat tank with copper. Affected plants can be soaked for two to three minutes in a ten percent bleach solution to kill any algae on them. Completely remove heavily affected leaves. Bleach rocks, gravel, and any other items that exhibit growth of the algae. Stock the tank with a Siamese algae eater (Crossocheilus siamensis)." Same site says it comes from infected plants like you said.
I know we use copper based paints on the bottom of boats and it keeps them very algae free all season. Not sure what copper does to fish though...
zeus, my tank lights are on a timer. The problem is that I seem to have gained a very vicious algae that smothers plants :( It's not your usual algae, it's a type of hair or beard algae I think, and likely came on some plants. If I want my tank plants to survive it has to be killed off! Hopefully once that is done things will go back to how they were a few months ago when I only got a little normal green algae.
Those double shut off valves are a great help, the Fluvals come with a little pump to syphon through as well. JC, apparently the algae grows because its got food and daylight. I find that putting my tanks on a timer so the lights are only on in the evening helps control it all. Good luck..
I can cope with a little algae, but the stuff in my tank at the moment is smothering my plants. I think it actually came on some plants I bought, I've looked on the web and it seems the only to control it is to kill it with an algacide :S I hope my plec and ottos won't be affected by having no algae in the tank for a while.
hey - Algae means a healthy tank!
On my 210 gallon, 56 gallon tall and my 28 gallon bow front I use Magnum 350's (I have 3 of them).
I like them because you can clean, bleach, rinse, and reuse them.
They seem to be a bit cheaper to replace filters and come with a basket to use carbon if needed.
Also; they have gravel vacs that attach to the intake so you can contain all the stuff in the canister.
To use these I highly recommend the double shut off valves on both in and out lines. It makes it a snap to disconnect and clean!
I think I'll stick to a internal filter again unless I can find an external at sensible money.
Juat been looking on eBay and found this, it's a must have for all fish tanks, a seafox in your tank ;)

I'm saving for the fluval fx5. The good thing is that as I save, the price comes down. Its £149 at present but I have so many other things to buy that the fishies are a long way down the list..
Thanks zeus, I seem to have settled in to a nice routine looking after the tank. A marine tank sounds cool, keep us posted on what you do. I'm thinking of making a new lid for my tank, even though the current one is only 4 motnhs old!! I might get a new filter too, my one is pretty old with a fairly low flow rate and the filter sponge get clogged all the time. It's a pain in the arse having to cleans it every few days. Modern filters look much more efficient.
I setup my nieces 28 Litre tank yesterday, it's looking good and the water is already good and clear so we are going to get a few danios, and maybe some corys, for it tommorow to get it going :)
Still looking good JC. Both mine seem to be ok at the minute. Just inherited a third tank off my sister as she's moving back to London and can't take it with her. Might set up a marine tank....
You got me guys!!! This isn't MY tank really!! As you guys guessed, all my FISH have spoons!! ;p
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to add seafox and some spoons to the tank :D
FFS!!! I'm loosing it big time :D

I deliberately left the image big so it could be edited to your wallpapering needs :)
It was easier to take the planted one, I could use a longer exposure because plants don't move much!! ;p
YoOoster if you like a fish tank planted try this one :D http://snaps.snapsoid.com/~My_Fern_Tank_thats_soon_to_be_my_Fish_Tank

Algae is a normal part of aquaria.
I just scrubbed down my 28 gallon this weekend.
Also; added a mystery snail in that and one in the 10 gallon nursery too.
